Weihenstephaner Berglauf 2026
Even though it was the coldest and wettest day of the week, more than 80 runners once again rose to the challenge of the (legendary) Weihenstephan “Mountain Run”. And there was certainly no chance of anyone getting bored, as the route had been completely redesigned for the first time in the race’s history and, over 6 km and various loops, took participants to many charming spots on our campus that had not previously been part of the race. The route began with a lap towards Dürnast, before heading back onto the campus, where runners had to cross the Anniversary bridge twice, amongst other things. Every single incline along the way was tackled, so even those who might have been disappointed that the “Nährberg” wasn’t part of the route found themselves out of breath – or got their money’s worth. Among the benefits of this were that there were no more roads to cross – which took the pressure off our friends from the volunteer fire brigade – and that there were several meeting points where runners of different paces could catch up with each other and high-five! An (unofficial) survey after the run revealed that almost everyone took advantage of this opportunity – true team spirit! Everyone crossed the finish line safely, so we were able to celebrate at the awards ceremony in the late afternoon! Refreshments were provided and - as usual - everyone received a winner's mug - limited 2026 edition! Special honours were awarded to the top three finishers in the women’s, men’s and team categories – congratulations!
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who lent a helping hand – the staff of the professorship, colleagues from partner laboratories, family members and, in particular, the Weihenstephan Volunteer Fire Brigade!
