Openings
We are always looking for motivated and talented students and researchers that wish to join the group. Here at TUM and in our research group, we believe in diversity and aim to foster a stimulating environment that supports and integrates scientist from all backgrounds.
In our research, we aim to address challenging topics at the interface between chemistry, polymer science, materials science, physics, and engineering. We look forward to discovering new things together as a team! If you are interested in our research activities and want to join the group, you will find relevant information about open positions and opportunities below.
PhD & Postdoc Positions
PhD student (m/f/d) in stimuli-responsive thermoplastic elastomers
To expand our team, we are currently looking for a PhD student (m/f/d) in the field of stimuli-responsive thermoplastic elastomers to start as soon as possible. The full job advertisement can be found here:
TUM_FMP_PhD_responsive_elastomers.pdf
In this project, the successful candidate will work on the synthesis and characterization of supramolecular block copolymers and thermoplastic elastomers whose mechanical properties can be tuned and reprogrammed by heat and light. The work involves organic and polymer synthesis, ligand design, and the assembly of supramolecular materials in solution and in the melt, complemented by a broad range of characterization methods (e.g. NMR, SEC, UV-vis, DSC/TGA, scattering, AFM, rheology, DMA). The position is part of an international French-German collaboration and offers close interaction with our partners at Université de Lille.
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with an excellent Master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, polymer science, materials science, or a related discipline, a strong interest in synthetic chemistry and functional soft materials, and enjoyment of experimental lab work. Very good English skills and a team-oriented, reliable working style are essential; prior experience in organic/polymer synthesis and/or supramolecular chemistry is an advantage.
To apply for this positions, please email a single PDF file with the documents listed below to application.fmp(at)ls.tum.de :
- Curriculum vitae
- Motivation letter
- Copies of relevant transcripts/degree certificates
- Contact details of at least two referees
For specific questions, please contact Stephen Schrettl via email. Unspecific and impersonal applications without a clear interest in our research group will not be considered.
Open Call for PhD and Postdoctoral Candidates
We are also happy to support and accept outstanding candidates for PhD and postdoc positions that can attract their independent funding through national or international fellowships. A listing of selected fellowship opportunities can be found below (coming soon). If you are interest in the possibility of applying for funding, please directly contact Stephen Schrettl via email by sending your CV together with a motivation letter that describes your research interests and experience (e.g. short summary of MSc or PhD research work, respectively).
To apply for any research positions, please email a single PDF file with the documents listed below to application.fmp(at)ls.tum.de and indicate the position you are applying for in the email header:
- Curriculum vitae
- Motivation letter with a description of your research interests and why you chose to apply to our group
- Copies of relevant transcripts/degree certificates
- Contact details of at least two referees
Applicants should have a strong background in a relevant field (in chemistry, polymer science, soft matter, materials science, engineering, physics, or related fields). Positions can start at any time throughout the year. For specific questions, please contact Stephen Schrettl via email. Unspecific and impersonal applications without a clear interest in our research will not be considered.
Research Internships / B.Sc. Theses / M.Sc. theses
Thesis work towards the M.Sc. or B.Sc. degrees or research internships are available around the year on various topics. As long as capacities are available, we are happy to accept interested students from within TUM and from other institutions. Generally, the duration of an intership should be 6 weeks or more. Please familiarize yourself with our research and think of areas of interest to you prior to contacting us.
If you are interested in joining the lab for research internships or B.Sc. & M.Sc. theses, please contact Stephen Schrettl directly by email. Please provide the following if you are interested to join the lab
- for undergraduate research internships or B.Sc. theses, please contact Stephen Schrettl directly by email.
- for internships during your M.Sc. studies, please provide your B.Sc. certificate and your field of specialization when contacting Stephen Schrettl by email (any attachments as a single PDF file).
- for work on your M.Sc. thesis, please compile a short application file that includes a brief motivation letter, your Curriculum Vitae, and the full transcripts of your M.Sc. & B.Sc. studies (please provide a single PDF file). Thesis work on various topics is available and can be discussed with Stephen Schrettl.
