Description
The “Smartfield” project focuses on autonomous decision-making in the crop farming industry. It analyzes the extent to which AI and data-driven models are capable of making management decisions and cultivating fields autonomously in today's world. The project is being tested on trial fields planted with winter wheat. Algorithms take over all important agronomic decisions, such as the selection of seeds, the application of fertilizers or plant protection. They cover the decision-making chain from sowing to harvest. Agricultural students carry out comparative experiments according to current best practice and compare the results of the autonomous algorithms in order to assess the effects and quality.
