Marius Henkel is a Bioprocess Engineer who has personally grown excited by the emerging research topics in Cellular Agriculture using biotechnology-driven concepts for alternative agricultural products. The future of Cellular Agriculture will be shaped by its ability to be competitive on both an environmental and economic level. With a strong background in industrial biotechnology, he has experience in development of cost-effective and efficient processes, starting with strain development and process control through to purification concepts.
Marius Henkel studied Biosystems Engineering at the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg and obtained his doctoral degree in engineering in 2014 from the Chemical and Process Engineering Faculty at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. In the following two years, he was employed as a Post Doc in the Department of Bioprocess Engineering at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany. From 2016, he was deputy head of the Department of Bioprocess Engineering. He was appointed professor for Cellular Agriculture at TUM in September 2022.
His main research areas include the development of bioscaffolding technologies and scalable concepts for cell culture-based meat and the biotechnological production of functional components for food and semi-synthetic products using high-performance process development and embedded concepts of molecular bioprocess control.
