In times of climate change, the scientific knowledge concerning the formation of Greenhouse Gas emissions from the life cycle of bioenergy systems is increasing in importance. A multitude of methodologies and inconsistent basic data for the assessment of environmental effects exist and lead to different results. Therefore, one of the major goals of „ExpRessBio“ is the harmonization of methods for evaluation of environmental effects arising from the Bavarian agricultural and forestry sector, with the aim of making various policy options comparable. Since stand and management regime are of great influence towards the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of bioenergy systems, „ExpRessBio“ tries to regionalize calculations for Bavarian conditions. Based on extensive environmental analysis, a comprehensive optimization of the Bavarian agriculture and forestry sector and accompanying reductions of emissions shall be achieved. These results, in conjunction with economic assessments, shall present options for actions for producers, consumers, and policy makers. Through the raising of awareness a sustainable development in the Bavarian agriculture and forestry sector shall be supported.
